Some 1,000 artists tonight staged a grand Expo concert, "City Harmony in Expo Tunes," at Shanghai Grand Stage. It's part of the countdown to World Expo Shanghai 2010 and is one of the biggest gatherings of Chinese talent.
Famous artists include violinist Huang Mengla, cellist Qin Liwei, pianist Li Yundi, conductor Chen Zuohuang, ballet dancer Tan Yuanyuan, dancer performer Huang Doudou and soprano Yao Hong.
It is a rarity that so many famous Chinese musicians and dancers come together in one event on one stage in a grand performance.
The concert, involving 136 violins, 49 violas, and 53 cellos, became one of the biggest ever in China. The organisers wanted to use the language of music to express "creativity" and "harmony."
