The 2nd China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit
October 19-22, 2005

Brief Introduction
At the 7th China-ASEAN Summit on October 8, 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao of the people’s Republic of china proposed that a China-ASEAN Expo be held annually in Nanning, Guangxi, China from the year 2004 onwards. His initiative was welcomed by the ASEAN leader and was written into the Chairman’s Statement released after the Summit. The Chinese Premier also suggested that a China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit be held simultaneously with the China-ASEAN Expo.
The 1st China-ASEAN Expo and the 2nd china-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit were successfully held in Nanning, China in November, 2004.
For the 2nd China-ASEAN Expo and the 2nd China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, the time is set to be October 19-22, 2005 and likewise, the two events will be held in the same city of the same country.

The Organizing Committee of CAEXPO:
Madam Wu Yi, Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China acts as the Honorary Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee, the Minister of Commerce of China, and his counterparts, ministers of 10 ASEAN countries and secretary General of the ASEAN Secretariat are the co-chairpersons in the Organizing Committee.

Objectives of CAEXPO:
Based on the Framework Agreement on China-ASEAN comprehensive Economic Cooperation, with the sole objectives of promoting the building of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, and striving for mutual benefits and common prosperity, the China-ASEAN Expo focuses on regional economic and trade cooperation and provides tremendous opportunities for the business communities from all over the world.

Five Main Contents of CAEXPO:

Commodity Trade: Demonstrating competitive commodities of different countries, promoting import and export transactions and building up a platform for commodity trade between China and ASEAN as well as the rest of the world.

Investment and Cooperation: Introducing investment environment within the sponsoring countries, releasing business and projects information, matching projects with possible cooperators and promoting regional investment.

Trade in Service: Giving priority to promotion for tourism, exchanges in science and technology as well as human resource with an intention of developing a new cooperative area for China and ASEAN countries.

High-level Forums: Inviting state leaders, business elites, experts and scholars form all over the world to air their views on regional economic cooperation for mutual development.

Cultural Exchanges: The 2nd CAEXPO stages a variety of cultural activities, including Nanning International Festival of Folk Song and Arts and a cultural show--Splendid Southeast Asia etc. which will offer to all participants the beauty of multi-cultures in the ASEAN countries and China and enhance better understanding of different races.
