The East China Import and Export Commodity Fair (abbreviated as East China Fair) is an international regional trade fair. It enjoys the largest exhibition scale, the most traders, the widest coverage and the highest trade volume in China. East China Fair is co-sponsored by China鈥檚 nine provinces and cities of the East China region, namely Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Nanjing and Ningbo. Since 1991 14 sessions of East China Fair has been successfully staged, and there are three main ranges, which are textile and garments, crafts and light industrial commodities. ECF bases on the East China region and serves the whole country to distinguish the characteristic of specialization. The 14th East China Fair (2004 Shanghai) was held in Shanghai New International Expo Center, with 80,500sqm exhibition area and 4158 booths in 7 professional exhibition halls. Among them, 44.5% for Textile & Garments (1300 plus booths), 39.99% for Light Industry (1186 booths) and 15.51% for Crafts (460 booths).
銆銆In addition to the participants from the main nine provinces and cities, there were more than 2400 enterprises, including the united trade group organized by 20 plus provinces, autonomous regions, cities and over 100 overseas enterprises, participated in the 14th session of ECF. The participating enterprises increased by 100 as compared with the previous session. During the 14 years of ECF, the structures of participating enterprises have been developed from the first kind of 鈥渟ingle state-owned enterprises鈥 to the style of 鈥渟tate-owned enterprises mainly, supplemented with foreign founded enterprises, Sino-foreign cooperative enterprises and joint venture 鈥, and to the current form of 鈥渟tate-owned enterprises, local enterprises and enterprises with three main types of capitals standing like the legs of a tripod鈥. All of these have represented the development process of the reform of national economic system and the pluralism of economic elements. Among all the participating enterprises in the 14th ECF, there were 874 state-owned ones, accounting for 38.2%, 803 local enterprises, accounting for 35.2%, and 609 enterprises with three kind of capital, accounting for 26.6%.
銆銆 The East China Fair enjoys gratifying export transaction volume. In the 14th ECF, the total export transaction volume was USD 2,559.18 million, increased by 25.43% in comparison to the previous session. The main countries and regions for the export transaction volume were: Japan (28.1%), European Union (17.15%), the United States (16.06%), Hong Kong and Macao special regions (10.55%), Korea (5.45%), the Middle and Near East (5.29%), ASEAN (4.67%), Taiwan region (3.17%), the Middle and South America (2.32%), Africa (1.86%), Russia (1.40%) and others (3.98%). The main products for transaction were: Textile & Garments (USD 1,081.77 million), increased by 17.72%, Light Industry & Crafts (USD 901.73 million), increased by 48.33% as compared with the previous session.
The number of the visitors coming to the 14th East China Fair (2004 Shanghai) has reached another historical peak, which reached 18,915, increased by 20.1% as compared with the last session. Most attendees were from 150 countries and regions. Among them, Asia accounts for 65.49%, Europe accounts 10.96%, North America accounts for 8.03%, Oceania accounts for 2.37%, Latin America accounts for 1.16% and Africa accounts for 1.34%.
