Introduction to the university
Jilin University was founded on 12th June, 2000. The University includes five higher education institutions which are the former Jilin University, Jilin University of Technology, Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences, Changchun University of Science and Technology, and Changchun Institute of Post and Telecommunications. Jilin University is a national key comprehensive university which covers eleven academic disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and management. At present, the university composes of 8 divisions and has 14,959 faculty members, with 12,065 teachers and professional technicians, 10 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 4 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. There are a total of 62,764 full time students, 140 doctoral degree programs, 234 master's degree program, 118 undergraduate programs and 26 post-doctoral research bases. Other resources include 8 national bases for the development of basic science research and teaching personnel, 16 national key disciplines, 5 national key laboratories, 5 research centers for humanities and social sciences and 7 key laboratories sponsored by the Ministry of Education. Jilin University has established worldwide exchange and cooperation links with more than 130 universities, colleges, and research institutes in over 40 countries and regions. The goal of Jilin University can be summarized as follows: by the year of 2010, we shall turn Jilin University into an important base for high-quality professional training, high-level scientific research and commercialization, as well as a think-tank so as to enable Jilin University to become an open, comprehensive university of great importance and high research level in China.

Basically all regular courses are taught in Chinese. Some graduate programs are taught in English, but it is not always possible to enroll an individual student. A supervisor professor can be appointed. For more information contact the foreign students office. Jilin University offers free group insurance to self-financed foreign students. |
Housing:

There are 5 different buildings where foreign students can stay, spread over the different campuses. Dorm beds are available from USD 3-5/day and single rooms start at USD 4-15/day. All rooms are furnished and have a telephone connection, internet connection and a television. Suites are available from USD 25-35/day. |
