Tsinghua University is one of the most famous universities in China. Located in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing--the capital city of China, Tsinghua University was built on the site of 鈥淭singhua Yuan鈥 --a former royal garden of Qing Dynasty. When the University was established in 1911, it had the name of 鈥淭singhua School鈥. In 1928, the School became the National Tsinghua University. From then on, it has developed into a comprehensive, research-intensive university, covering sciences, engineering, humanities, law, medicine, economics, management and art. The academic development of Tsinghua is characterized by the integration and interaction of the following styles: the rigorous, scientific approach in engineering, seeking evidence and truth in science, the rich and profound spirit of humanities accumulated over years, the romance and variety of arts.
Currently, Tsinghua University consists of (School of Architecture, School of Civil Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Information Science and Technology, School of Sciences, School of Economics and Management, School of Public Policy & Management, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Law, School of Arts and Design, School of Applied Technology and School of medicine) with 54 departments, as well as a Graduate School and a School of Continuing Education. The university offers 60 undergraduate programs and is authorized to confer Master鈥檚 degree in 170 specialities, PhD degree in 128 specialities.
Tsinghua University is not only a teaching center, but also a scientific research base of national importance. At present, Tsinghua University has 47 research institutes, 29 research centers (including 5 national engineering research centers), 13 national laboratories accounting for one tenth of the total number of national laboratories in China, and 27 post-doctoral research stations. The library has floor space of 39,000 square meters and a collection of 3,500,000 volumes. In recent years, an increasing number of electronic and digital resources have been made available in the library and on the network. Readers can search the library information online. The certificates provided should be the original documents in Chinese or in English, otherwise notarized translations in Chinese or English are required.
B. Application for Chinese Government Scholarship
銆
Applicants may apply for scholarship to the government departments in charge of overseas study affairs in their own country, related organizations or Chinese embassies. The application time is between February and April. Please check the website of CSC (http://www.csc.edu.cn) for details.
C. Entrance Examination & Admission
銆
1. Undergraduate students
After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Student Affairs Office of Tsinghua University, applicants will be required to take the entrance examination held by the University. Science, Engineering or Management applicants shall take exams of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English paper test . Architecture applicants shall also take an exam of Sketch in addition. Humanities or Law applicants shall take exams of Basic Chinese, Chinese Writing, Chinese Listening, and English paper test as well . Applicants for English Department shall take writing and oral exams of English and exams of Basic Chinese, Chinese Writing and Listening. Arts applicants shall take exams of Sketch, Quick Sketch and Color Painting. The exams are usually held in mid-May. The exact time will be announced by the University.

2. Graduate students
Those who apply for graduate program can be admitted if passing the entrance examinations held by the university. If the applicants for the graduate program ask for exam exemption, their application materials should be reviewed by the Foreign Students Affairs Office and the Admission Committee of the department concerned, and approved by the Graduate School of the university. After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Students Affairs Office and the Admission Committee of the department concerned, the admission notice will be issued.

After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Students Affairs Office, the admission notice will be issued. The Foreign Students Affairs Office will issue the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China to the applicants who passed the examination and were approved by the University.
D. Enrollment

The applicants admitted should bring Passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China, the Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Record to the embassy and consulates of the People鈥檚 Republic of China in respective countries and apply for an X visa. Students must register before the deadline at the Foreign Students Affairs Office and get the Residence Permit within 30 days after they enter China.

3. Insurance

The students studying in the university more than one semester may purchase medical insurance for hospitalization and accident injury. The premium is RMB 600 yuan per year per person or 400 yuan per half-year per person.
